Dead is a Battlefield — Marlene Perez

Dead is a Battlefield
by Marlene Perez
Houghton Mifflin Harcourt 2012

Not only are there zombies, but there is also a new kind of zombie fighter, a Virago or
woman warrior, who will take the field against perfume-addicted girls. If this sounds
confusing, it is. Jessica Walsh is starting her freshman year at (get the name, wink-wink)
Nightshade High School. Jessica’s best friend Eva is attracted to Edgar Love, a new boy
at school. Soon it is not just Eva who is smitten, but a whole posse of young girls who
can’t get enough of Edgar and can’t buy enough of the very expensive perfume he sells
in his store. In fact, Eva is so overwhelmed by the perfume’s effect that she looked at her
friend Jessica and drooled out the word, “hungry.” It is up to Jessica to find the antidote
for Eva and her group. This is one in a series of books on this same theme. It is not a
compelling read.
